Continuing on with our full year of support to Solid Ground’s Broadview Shelter & Transitional Housing, another exciting day of giving back is in the books. Together with our team, we’re constantly brainstorming ways to help the residents at Broadview. The shelter houses families - mainly mothers and their children - providing a safe haven at a secure location in Seattle if they are experiencing homelessness or need to flee from domestic abuse. Earlier this year, we started the program with a donation of new technology to support remote learning during Covid (tablets, Microsoft Office software and mic headsets) - but that was just the beginning. As part of our help, we’re stepping up with time and support in addition to the resources we donated. In February, we initially onboarded with Broadview with a Lunch and Learn to kick off our support and continued on in March, hosting a Career Day, and in May with a special Mother’s Day delivery. This month, we hosted a photoshoot at Broadview to provide family photos to the residents. The idea emerged from observations we’ve made during our time learning more about the shelter and its residents. Since the families are experiencing some of the darkest days of their lives, we knew they likely didn’t have many recent, joyful photos to display in their temporary home. And, since many of them have fled from abusive relationships, they also are likely not displaying old photographs. That’s when the light bulb went off! Together with Toni Pinto of Pinto's Portraits, RedCloud organized in-kind family photographs onsite at Broadview. During the sessions, families were captured together and will be provided with the photos as a keepsake. Joanna, a Broadview Advocate, reflects on the day:
“What an amazing event! The photoshoot was fantastic. We had 8 families participate. You could see on the mom's faces how special they felt, with the limelight on them and their children, and Toni taking the time to help them pose for the photos in the best way. Domestic Violence tears at self-esteem; this event really helped the moms to feel valued. There was also a lot of laughter and joy during the shoot; it was a wonderful bonding event for the families. To receive the photos and digital versions will bring additional joy and a keepsake that these families would not otherwise have. Thank you so much for sponsoring the photoshoot, and to Toni for being so kind to the families.” - Joanna, Children’s Advocate, Broadview Shelter & Transitional Housing Program/Solid Ground We’re thrilled to continue the support as the year goes on!
