15 Apr A Joy to Judge the DECA Annual Conference
Recently, RedCloud was proud to participate in the Washington State DECA Career Development Conference – held at the Meydenbauer Center and Hyatt Regency in Bellevue. DECA “prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.” Clearly a good fit for our ongoing community support of organizations that provide educational services to students of the Seattle region.
The annual state DECA conference is one of the organization’s most exciting events of the year and we’re so glad it still took place, despite the special social distancing efforts that were implemented. Once again this year, RedCloud employees volunteered to be judges for the event. Reflecting back, our judges said it was a rewarding experience, and being at one of the largest educational gatherings of students in Washington, the DECA conference is a unique opportunity to give back to the young people or our region.
On Day Two, RedCloud employees, along with hundreds of other industry judges and DECA volunteers gathered to assess and evaluate thousands of DECA students in competitive events. The students were challenged with multiple rounds of performances. With the art of social distancing just starting out, sessions started with elbow bumps instead of handshakes – but then it was all about the competition. DECA recapped the day’s events here.
At the conclusion of the event, RedCloud Account Director Scott Morton recapped his experience, “I was really impressed with the preparation and presentations while judging the Retail Merchandising competition. It was such a rewarding experience!”
On Day Three, the winners were revealed and now have the opportunity to attend the International Career Development Conference. While the next phase of DECA competitions may be pushed out due to the ongoing health situation, we look forward to hearing more about this event and we hope it can still take place in some manner. This marque event draws 18,000 high school students, advisors, businesspersons and alumni together to develop knowledge and skills for the future of their careers.
We can’t wait for the next opportunity like this!
