08 Nov The 1st Annual Dave “Hendu” Henderson Educational Scholarship by RedCloud
It is with great pride and honor that our RedCloud team announces the launch of a new community support campaign in advance of this year’s holiday season with our partners at Seattle-area non-profit, Toys For Kids. This week, our Managing Partner Brett Alston joined Toys For Kids Co-Founder and the voice of the Seattle Mariners Rick Rizzs and Nancy Henderson, the wife of the late Seattle Mariner great Dave Henderson in presenting the 1st Annual Dave “Hendu” Henderson Educational Scholarship Presented by RedCloud Consulting to a well-deserving high school student at SeaTac’s Tyee High School.
Chosen based on student-written essays on “How does getting an education make you smile everyday?” , Toys For Kids and RedCloud presented a check and award scholarship to Duerte Mohamed for her inspiring story of perseverance and how she now tutors younger children coming from similar situations to help empower them for their own futures.
As Alston shared with Tyee’s entire senior class who gathered for the the award presentation, RedCloud’s goal is to start a positive “ripple effect” by impacting one person’s life, who then passes that impact onto a handful of others, and so on until the impact is deep and wide throughout our community. We are positive Duarte will do just that with this opportunity and can’t wait to see where she takes her journey. In addition to the scholarship, Duarte will have an opportunity in the future for an internship with RedCloud to put her college education to work.
Known for providing under-served children presents at the holidays, Toys for Kids (now with the help of RedCloud) has expanded its services to ensure young people have every opportunity to continue their education through these scholarships. RedCloud’s community program works with organizations such as Toys for Kids to provide prolonged support to that focus on the physical, cognitive, and emotional development of young people – our region’s most important asset.
Local CBS affiliate KIRO TV and well-known reporter Jesse Jones also joined the event, providing inspiring words to the students and a news report on the scholarship give away. We are excited for the future positive impact this scholarship will create in the lives of our local youth!
